This East Village two-bedroom looks like the perfect spot to get cozy this winter
This prewar two-bedroom, two-bath rental recently received a facelift, and now it looks like the ideal wintertime retreat. Exposed brick and ceiling beams, along with other rustic features, lend the space a cozy, ski lodge vibe. But once you step outside, you're in the heart of the East Village.
That said, the apartment, listed for $5,995 per month by Metropolitan Property Group, is at the high end for the neighborhood, according to a StreetEasy search. For some, having a working fireplace—a rare amenity in NYC—will merit the steep price.
New, smooth flooring is a striking juxtaposition to the exposed brick in the wide living area, and the working fireplace, set in a rough wood mantle, is a definite highlight. A sliding barn door that leads to one of the bedrooms is another unusual touch, evoking a setting that's more Hudson Valley than downtown NYC.
The kitchen is in a separate area, with enough space for a table, and comes with stainless steel appliances, including a dishwasher. That said, the storage and prep space seems scarce, so this unit may be better suited to someone who plans to take advantage of the East Village's dining scene. The master bedroom features more brick, and looks like it gets a lot of light.

The two bathrooms look clean and crisp (if a little sterile), with black-and-white tile and soaking tubs; one includes a rain shower. You'll also find a washer and dryer set-up in the apartment. The building has an elevator and allows pets, but otherwise, no fancy amenities.
