Whip your kid's closet into shape, no matter how small it is
Keeping things organized is that much more important in a small room. And if you're raising kids in New York, chances are you don't have a walk-in closet for each of the little ones. Elle Decor rounds up the must-haves for every child's closet--and believe it or not, they're almost all doable for the space-challenged among us.
To pack more into less square footage, install two or three levels of hanging rods, since kids' clothes are shorter than adults'. Help them reach the highest rod with a fun step stool that can be tucked away (foldable ones are great for the city). Keep a hamper in the closet for easy laundry storage (which needs to be organized as much as the clean clothes!). Add hooks to blank wall space to hang knapsacks and tomorrow's outfit. And finally, here's a simple one: Buy size-appropriate children's hangers, so that pint-sized shirts and pants don't fall off regular hangers, cluttering up the floor.
