Summer is prime moving time, which explains why this is also the toughest rental season, since you're competing with everyone else looking for apartments. So where is everyone going? And why?
WNYC's The Brian Lehrer Show — a must-listen in our books, by the way, so consider this a recommendation (and a perennial "test drive") — took calls from listeners last week, and found that New Yorkers were moving for reasons both unsurprising (the rent is too damn high!), upsetting (Lehrer himself revealed he once "ran out" of a Chelsea apartment after just seven months because the noise on Ninth Avenue was just "too assaultingly loud"), or practical (one guy is moving back to his old neighborhood, Kingsbridge in the Bronx, because he just got a job there). And one Manhattanite says he and his wife are finally moving into a condo in Naples, Florida permanently because the tight real estate market will make it financially advantageous for them to sell their Midtown East apartment (lucky!).
