Stave off the kids' cabin fever with these snow day ideas
If you're trapped at home with your kids today, you're going to need a long list of (apartment-friendly) activities to keep the whole family from going nuts. Parenting blog Cool Mom Picks unearthed a bunch of helpful suggestions (see part one and two) and, though the post is from last winter, it's an oldie but a goodie, especially today. DNAinfo also has a few good ideas.
One of my personal favorites is making masks (paper, scissors, string and markers are the only tools necessary), and letting the kids put on a show. They can also make and decorate tickets to hand out and collect from the audience, aka you. I also agree wholeheartedly that a snow day is the perfect time to hold a good old dance party. Put on Pandora and get moving (bonus: a little exercise for parents, too). A big hit in our home at the moment: The new "Annie" soundtrack. (Just try to do most of your dancing on rugs to keep your downstairs neighbors happy). And if you were lucky enough to get a FreshDirect order before the storm yesterday, turn one of the boxes into a house, race car, anything your (and your child's) imagination allows.
