Easy steps to banish snow and salt from your apartment
It's still messy out today, but that doesn't mean you have to track the slush past your doorstep. Ideally, leave shoes in the hallway (in a plastic bag so as not to damage the floor) or, if your neighbors give you a hard time, invest in a boot tray for inside your apartment, suggests DNAinfo, which spoke with local cleaning experts to find out how to keep things tidy post-storm. A cheap DIY hack: put wet footwear on a cookie sheet to catch the runoff from the snow.
If it's already too late, the best way to clean salty carpets is by vacuum, and wipe other types of floors down with a damp cloth (tile is the most impervious). You can do the same for your shoes, which can also be ruined by certain types of salt.
