Since opening her eponymous New York City interior design firm in 2003, Sara Story has decorated a slew of posh Manhattan homes. Last year, she designed a room for the Kips Bay Decorator Showhouse and her first product line, Sara Story Design Wallpaper, debuted in 2012. She is launching her second wallpaper collection this year.
We asked her to describe the biggest conversation starter in her Gramercy townhouse:
German artist Daniel Richter’s "Hey Jack" painting, which hangs in my library, almost taking up a full wall. The colors are so rich and soothing and the lines of the piece really pull you in. This is one of the most recent additions to my art collection--I just purchased the painting last fall at Bo Bjerggard gallery.
My guests are blown away by its sheer scale. It is about the entire size of the wall and hung on the face of my bookshelves. Interestingly, it makes the room feel bigger--it is almost like another window in the room. Also the texture of the painting is very three dimensional and many people comment on that.
