Anyone who has ever attempted to garden in a New York City window box knows apartment living is not terribly conducive to plants. But Cora Neil, a spatial designer who found most traditional planters unsightly and dysfunctional, is hoping to change all that with the HEDGE, a planter with a powder-coated steel frame and a base made of sustainable coconut and latex that’s suited to any plant that can survive in a small pot.
The HEDGE can be hung or mounted to the wall (it comes with its own matching hardware) and is just so much better looking than a typical plastic planter. Each planter in the collection is named for a female pioneer of garden/landscape design—Gertrude Jekyll, Beatrix Farrand, Marian Cruger Coffin and Florence Bell Robinson—and all are available in six colors: fig, tangelo, marigold, deep sky, natural steel and one hue to be determined based on backers' votes (you have the power!).

With five days to go and over $30,000 in pledges, HEDGE by Cora Neil Design has far outreached its Kickstarter fundraising goal of $7,500, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still contribute. A pledge of $38 or more, for example, will score you a MARIAN mini pendant pair (in tangelo, marigold or fig), while a pledge of $100 or more will get you a GERTRUDE large pendant. There are more rewards up for grabs and you can expect delivery in January to March, 2015.
