What to expect for your 2015 commute
The ease of getting around the city is probably one of the most important factors to consider when moving to a new apartment. But the MTA is always keeping us on our toes, and that's not going to change anytime in the next year.
While a couple of the city's big transportation overhauls are still a ways off--the long-awaited Second Avenue Subway opening is set for 2016 and the replacement of the (now rather dingy) C trains will happen in 2017--there's plenty of new stuff in store for the next 12 months, according to transportation blog 2nd Avenue Sagas. Expect:
  • Service changes on the F, 2/3, and A/C lines (just on the weekends for that one, luckily), thanks to post-Sandy work on tunnels that go under the East River between Manhattan and Brooklyn
  • A spring fare hike that could see the base fare climbing up to $2.75
  • A smart Metrocard? MTA sources say they'll roll out a next-generation fare payment plan
