It's tough to find a deal in Hell's Kitchen these days, but compared to other options on the market (which don't dip much below $700,000), this $390,000 studio on West 45th Street is a relative steal.
Located between Eighth and Ninth avenues, the building is a 1920s doorman co-op known as the Whitby, and the listing notes that it has played host to the likes of Betty Grable and Al Capone over the years. More practically, it's pet-friendly, allows co-purhases, guarantors, and pied-a-terres, and has fairly reasonable monthly maintenance charges of $503/month.
The apartment itself has been recently renovated to include marble finishes, granite counter tops, and Viking and Subzero kitchen appliances. (Though it appears there's no room for a full-sized fridge—you'll want to investigate in person.) The bathroom is sleek and has a glass-enclosed shower:
One reason for the relatively low price may be that the apartment seems to be on the ground floor, and doesn't get a whole lot of natural light. (It may also require earplugs to block out the raucous Hell's Kitchen crowds on weekend evenings, unless there are soundproofed windows.)

But given that the building also has a roof deck on which to soak in the sun, the price tag may well make it worth living at street level.
