New York is a city of extremes—in weather, income and real estate. In fact, when he ran for mayor, Bill De Blasio famously described New York City's income inequality as a "Tale of Two Cities," and nowhere is that more clear than in our real estate inventory with rental apartments running as cheap as triple digits and as high as six digits (!).

And since it's peak rental season here in the city, we did a Streeteasy search for the cheapest and most expensive apartments you can rent in Brooklyn and Manhattan right this very minute. Here's what we found:

Low: This "efficiency studio" in Crown Heights in a three-story house, available for $790 a month, has a fridge, microwave and sink. Note: It also has a shared bathroom.

High: This historic Brooklyn Heights brownstone has seven bedrooms, four-and-a-half bathrooms and four fireplaces. It's available for a few day rental or one to two years. But it'll cost you: $25,000 a month.

Low: This $1,000 Upper West Side one-room apartment also has a shared bathroom. Still, utilities are included.

High: A six-bedroom, six-and-half-bathroom apartment at the Pierre comes with a butler and a chauffeur-driven Jaguar. The price tag gives us the feeling its reserved for oil barons and moguls: $500,000 a month.
