On Gramercy Park, an opulent studio—and that's not an oxymoron
First things first: Yes, you can likely get a two-bedroom for the price ($4,650 a month) of this studio on Gramercy Park East, but let’s just assume you want a really fancy abode—not to mention a key to the park and armored statues guarding your front door.
Long and narrow, the studio features two bay windows and upholstered walls
The approximately 500-square-foot, eighth-floor rental is essentially one long, fairly narrow space with two large bay windows overlooking Gramercy Park. The windows help delineate the rental’s two distinct living areas: one for sleeping, the other for dining/lounging. The apartment’s got custom padded upholstered walls, built-in banquettes, a Bose sound system and an ethanol fireplace.

A kitchen wall swings open to reveal additional storage and some swish lacquered cabinets
One on end of the studio is a very groovy built-in kitchen with all the expected high-end finishes: SubZero fridge, Miele dishwasher, and custom lacquered cabinets, plus a leather backsplash (which doesn’t sound all that practical). A wall of cabinets swings open to provide storage. On the opposite end is a bathroom that's similarly tricked out with a custom sink, radiant heat floors, a marble shower and a minimalist toilet.

Built in 1909, 36 Gramercy Park East is now a pet-friendly, doorman condo building with a live-in super and storage available. Priced at $4,650, apartment 8P is going for significantly more than other studios in the neighborhood, which are listed for $2,650 on average, according to StreetEasy, a fact that might explain in part why it’s still on the market after 81 days.
