Later this month, a New York City judge is scheduled to decide whether a proposed 328-bed facility housing 200 mentally ill men, 32 drug abusers and around 100 homeless can proceed at 127 West 25th Street in Chelsea. Meanwhile, commenters on StreetEasy.com have revived a debate on the impact on sales at the nearby Chelsea Stratus, where one-bedroom condos start at around $1.1 million.

No owners have chimed in yet, but knee-jerk NIMBY attitudes aren't necessarily carrying the day.

"Seriously, the Chelsea Stratus is on the corner of 6th Avenue & 24th Street --- who's going to notice a homeless shelter?" questions one.

Several commenters, in fact, seem more bothered by the condo than the shelter: The condo units "are shoeboxes," says one. "Too small for a human to live in. I would not be surprised if the homeless shelter objected to being located next to the Chelsea Stratus."

"Next to" is all relative, of course. The proposed shelter location is in the middle of West 25th Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues--one short block and half an avenue block away from the Chelsea Stratus. In densely-packed NYC, that's at least one micro-neighborhood away.
