Middle-income New Yorkers (and in particular, those of you who want to live in Queens) take note: Long Island City's massive, forthcoming affordable housing development Hunter's Point South will soon be accepting applications.

Priority for half of the 925 affordable units will reportedly be given to locals from Sunnyside, Queens, and Long Island City, and income restrictions are geared toward middle-income (as opposed to low-income) New Yorkers, which, as Brownstoner Queens points out, means "that many won’t find these units to be affordable at all." The Long Island City Post notes, for instance, that there are some units set aside for families with an annual income of $191,000.

Related Companies, the developer behind the project, is expected to announce and start accepting applications for the lottery on Oct. 1, after which point you'll have 60 days to get your materials in. In the interim, start getting those copies of tax returns and bank statements ready, and for further info on whether or not you qualify (and how to apply) check out the informational meeting schedule at the Sunnyside Community Services Center on Sept. 29 at 7:00 pm. We're guessing competition for these apartments will be stiff, but as they say, the squeaky wheel gets the affordable apartment.
