Before he wrote his famous "Leaves of Grass," classic American essayist and poet Walt Whitman worked at the Brooklyn Eagle. And the Brooklyn Heights building that once housed the paper's offices is now a co-op called the Eagle Warehouse, with a two-bedroom, two-bath that's currently asking $1.425 million. (Imagine what Whitman would think of that number!)

The third floor apartment, which is being represented by Keller Williams, has 12-foot beamed ceilings, and an additional office area that could be (and currently is being) used as a third bedroom. One of those bedrooms seems to have been inspired by the poet's famous piece, by the way (see photo above). The building, which is landmarked, has an elevator, doorman service, live-in super, fitness center, bike room, laundry on every floor, and storage space available for purchase.

At nearly 1,500 square feet, the apartment features a newly updated bathroom (one with a shower, another with a tub), stainless appliances in the open kitchen—complete with breakfast bar—and a walk-in closet in the master bedroom.

Pets are welcome up to 60 pounds. It's also just one stop away from downtown Manhattan on the train, and the DUMBO ferry terminal offers an alternative commute, too.
