If you buy this adorable house in Shelter Island, your summer plans are sorted
To get to Shelter Island, you'll have to take a ferry (don't worry, your car can come with you too), but once there, you know you've left the hustle and bustle of the Hamptons behind. And even in those rare moments you want a bit more activity, this quiet and beautiful island is close enough to allow easy access to enjoy both the North Fork and the South Fork.
This $575,000 clapboard house on Shelter Island is nothing like the ostentatious mansions elsewhere in the area, but it's charming outside, renovated inside, and close to restaurants, stores, beaches, and a library. Plus, it costs less than a Manhattan one-bedroom, and reasonably priced houses aren't exactly the specialty in this area.

There's a new, open kitchen, two bedrooms and one-and-a-half bathrooms. The living room has beamed ceilings and a fireplace, and it opens onto a back deck and decently sized backyard (the house sits on 0.28 acres).

At 1,224 square feet, it's not big, but we think it'll do just fine as a warm-weather getaway. We wouldn't mind spending the rest of the winter there, either, to be honest.
