Even if you don't score an affordable Hunters Point South rental, you can still party there
You'll have to sit tight for a few more months to find out if you've scored one of the affordable apartments going up in Hunters Point South, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy the place—and munch on some lobster rolls—while you wait. The developers behind the Long Island City affordable housing complex are throwing a "Party in the Park" on November 15th, featuring live music, family-friendly activities, and most importantly, free food.
The event—which marks the halfway point of the application period for the low- and middle-income apartments—will run from 1pm to 4pm, and for the first hour, free food will be provided by vendors including the Red Hook Lobster Pound, Sweetery, and Eddie's Pizza. From 12pm to 5pm, the East River Ferry will take passengers from its 34th Street dock to LIC free of charge.
Applications won't be available during the event, but you have until December 15th to apply via NYC Housing Connect. The competition is likely stiff—it's estimated that 25,000 applications flooded in within the first week for fewer than 1,000 units—but, as in any situation, free pizza (and lobster) can go a long way towards easing the pain.
