When Mayor Bill de Blasio put his Park Slope townhouse up for rent earlier this month (the first family has taken up residence in Gracie Mansion, after all), we wondered whether a tenant would look askance at having such a well-known landlord. Turns out, not at all. The first people to see the place snapped it up, agreeing to pay the advertised rent of $4,975 a month, the Wall Street Journal reports.
The new tenants signed a one-year lease, but are apparently trying to keep out of the spotlight: they declined to speak with the Journal, which did not disclose their names. “They already live in Park Slope, and they wanted more space and a garden,” a de Blasio aide tells the paper.
On the market for 12 days, the three-bedroom house had a few significant perks, among them an eat-in kitchen and a garden. Plus, it was the only full house available in the neighborhood for the price. On the other hand, the lack of an extra bathroom--there’s only one, and on the third floor at that--was a noteworthy downside.
Apparently, the place needed a lot of work before being rented out.”It’s just a lot of things that we thought from the beginning we should fix but we never got to,” de Blasio told the Journal last month. Now, it has a new dishwasher, fridge and microwave, as well as newly refinished oak floors.
