Covet: Home gyms that will make working out (almost) an indulgence
Bathing suit season is just around the corner, but there’s still a bit of time yet to get in shape. For those of us who think working out in public is just too mortifying for words, we'll just have to make do. But if you're one of the lucky ones in the market for an apartment with a get-fit indulgence, consider ones of these homes—all of which come complete with private gyms that would give even Equinox and David Barton a run for their money.
A basement gym may not sound like much of luxury, unless it comes with this five-story brownstone at 38 West 87th Street (on sale for $18 million) which includes six bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, plus a garden and multiple terraces—for cooling off post-workout, natch.

The top floor of this Tribeca townhouse at 2 North Moore (yours for $46 million) is practically a temple to fitness with its skylight-lit gym that includes an equipment closet and powder room, plus a 50-foot heated pool. Swimming is, after all, an excellent form of low-impact exercise, according to many health experts (also, your very own pool!).
Basketball enthusiasts will be thrilled with this $26.5 million Upper East Side townhouse that includes a 13-foot-by-28-foot, glass-enclosed gym currently set up as a b-ball court with polished wood floors, a net and padded walls—in case you get carried away during a jump shot.

As far as home gyms goes, this one—within a 4,000-square foot three-bedroom, rental at 225 East 24th Street—ranks pretty high thanks to thoughtful accents like a towel cooler, beverage fridge, 55-inch 3D TV and central speakers, not to mention pro equipment. Don’t worry about mopping up the sweat; weekly housekeeping is included in the $19,500/month rent.
