Buy a newly-renovated Vinegar Hill townhouse—but be prepared for a hike to the subway
Long considered the more affordable (and less convenient) alternative to neighboring Dumbo, Brooklyn's Vinegar Hill has been seeing increasingly high-priced listings of late, and this five-bedroom, 5.5-bathroom $3.895 million townhouse on Concord Street is case in point. While StreetEasy's records show the home being sold for just $1.275 million in 2015, sleek new renovations may explain the dramatic jump in price.
The main floor (and primary entertaining area) includes high ceilings, herringbone wood floors, gas fireplaces, and an open layout leading into a spacious chef's kitchen, which, in turn, leads to the home's landscaped backyard.
An open walnut staircase takes you to the upper floors, where you'll find the bedrooms, bathrooms, and a spacious laundry room (not pictured). We like the all-white modern feel of the bathrooms, and the variety—one has a soaking tub (and a bidet!), and another has a more modern walk-in shower.

Further up, you'll find a finished roofdeck, equipped with its own gas fireplace for cookouts in the warmer months. It looks a little austere now, but get some plants and comfortable seating up there, and your friends will be inviting themselves over every weekend.
Though the home doesn't appear to have parking, it might be best suited for those with a car, or a tolerance for high Uber bills: Both of the nearest subway stops are close to a half mile away, meaning a 10-minute walk to the train in either direction.
