Apply now for rentals as cheap as $378/month in the Bronx
Note: BrickUnderground is in no way affiliated with New York City public housing. If you are interested in applying to this or other affordable housing developments, please go to the NYC Housing Connect website for information and instructions.
Missed yesterday's affordable East New York rentals? You can also now get your applications in for one of 50 new subsidized apartments opening up in the Mt. Hope section of the Bronx, with prices starting as low as $378 a month, per a new listing on NYC Housing Connect. One key factor to keep in mind: To qualify for this building, at least one person in your household (e.g. a parent or spouse who you plan to live with) has to be 55 or older. (And don't forget, you've always got the option to apply to both developments at the same time.)
Applications opened Friday for spots in the West Tremont Residences, located at 92 West Tremont Avenue, formerly the site of "an empty pit filled mostly with overgrown grass," according to the BXTimes. All apartments available are one-bedrooms, priced at either $378/month, $522/month, $666/month, or $810/month for residents with household incomes between $15,237 and $41,460, depending on family and apartment size. (The full list of requirements and options can be found here.)
As with most affordable housing developments, preference for half the apartments will be given to current neighborhood residents, which in this case means Bronx Community District 5, an area that includes parts of Fordham, Morris Heights, Mount Hope, and University Heights. But unlike other developments, there's an age requirement, too. The building is intended to be primarily a senior residence, and the Housing Connect listing notes that "at least one person in the household must be age 55 and over at time of application."
