An unapologetically non-New York-y house that feels like a respite from city stress
Forget the caveats that typically afflict New York City property listings that don't feel very, well, New York-y. This house in Bay Ridge, listed by Compass, may just be the in-city escape from the proverbial grind a New Yorker needs, with water views to boot.
First, the space: This four-bedroom, three-bath single-family has plenty of space to sprawl measuring 3180 square feet divided among four floors. The living room alone is in excess of 400 square feet—the size of a studio—and there's a separate dining room, too.
The kitchen is spacious but could use a refresh, though it does come with a commercial-grade stove. Its large window frames wide-sky views and sliding glass doors lead into a sweet yard, however.
Bedrooms are airy and don't feel generic; the top-level master bedroom has a sloped roof and its own terrace.
The location, plus the house's exterior (see above), is charmingly vacation-y, and goes a long way toward making you feel like you're in a coastal town instead of in NYC. But lest you forget that you're in Brooklyn, the vista will remind you of how close—and yet, so far—you are from all the frenzy: the Freedom Tower and the Statue of Liberty are right there on the horizon.
Given its outerborough location—by the way, an increasingly popular spot and one of our picks in 2015 for the best neighborhoods for first-time buyers—its price tag seems surprisingly within reach compared to other parts of Brooklyn (though on the higher end for the area): $1.75 million.
