A cute Kensington, Brooklyn studio — for under $250,000
This $245,000 Kensington studio co-op screams starter apartment to us, and a pretty good one at that. The bathroom has been recently renovated, and the separate kitchen is well-sized, with a decent amount of cabinet space. Plus, we're loving the built-in desk by the window (see photo above), which seems like a lovely place to actually get work done.

Extra points for the full tub in the bathroom.

According to the floorplan, there's a walk-in closet that's big enough to fit a double bed, but the current owner has sectioned off the sleeping area with a clever curtain contraption. Points for creativity!

The apartment is on the sixth floor of an elevator building. Note that the windows appear to look onto a courtyard, though, so it's possible you won't get tons of light (or have expansive views). Cats are allowed, but dogs aren't.
Kensington is a diverse neighborhood; it used to be considered part of Flatbush. If you put 20 percent down ($49,000) for this apartment, you're looking at monthly payments that are less than $1,500 (maintenance is $460/month) — almost exactly the same as the area's median price for studios. This one could be a no-brainer.
