A Chelsea studio with a sleeping loft you can actually stand up in, for $800,000
With a double-height living room, large windows, and a sleeping loft large enough for a bed and a desk—there’s a lot to like about this 720-square-foot Chelsea studio, 155 West 15th St., #2F. It’s listed for $800,000.
The living room is airy and open—and looks huge—with 12-foot ceilings, white walls, blonde-wood flooring, and a wall of windows overlooking a pleasantly surprising amount of greenery for a Manhattan locale.
Its current set-up includes a nice-sized seating area with a couch, a coffee table, and an assortment of chairs, which face a flat-screen TV on top of a built-in media cabinet. Across the room is a desk, dresser, and cabinet.
Up a narrow flight of stairs is the loft bedroom that can hold a bed, a desk, and a dresser. There’s even room to stand up—not always a given in a loft.
The kitchen feels a little out of context in these otherwise spacious digs—it looks cramped, with hardly any counter space to speak of. It’s also a bit dated, with white appliances and some small, rickety-looking cabinets up top. It does have a dishwasher, though, which is definitely a positive.
There aren’t any photos of the bathroom, which is usually a bad sign. But if that and the kitchen are the only real problem areas, renovating them shouldn’t be too intimidating a prospect.

The studio is in a pet-friendly prewar co-op building with an elevator, bike room, storage room, laundry on each floor, and live-in super. Maintenance is $891 a month.
It’s three blocks from Union Square, where there are loads of restaurants and a year-round Greenmarket, and two blocks from the 1, 2, and 3 trains.
