How to snag a South Bronx rental for less than $800/month
If you've been hoping to find affordable rentals in the South Bronx, now could be your chance: Applications opened yesterday 140 new rentals at 655 Morris Avenue, a new building in the Melrose section of the borough, according to a new listing posted on NYC Housing Connect.
The building was built through the city's Low Income Affordable Marketplace Program and the Low Income Rental Program (and is accepting section 8 vouchers), and will also include both commercial space and community space, as YIMBY reported back in 2014. Amenities will include a community room, bike parking, dishwashers, "facial recognition building access" technology for security, and for extra fees, on-site laundry and parking.
The apartments are a mix of studios, one-bedrooms, two-bedrooms, and three-bedrooms, for renters with varying household and income sizes—see below for the full list of availabilities, prices, and requirements:
Preference for half of the apartments will be given to current residents of Bronx Community Board 1, and applications will be accepted until July 8th. (For tips on the application process, read our guide.) You can either apply online via NYC Housing Connect, or request a hard copy application by mailing a self-addressed envelope to Morris Avenue Apartments PO Box 1185, New York, NY 10150.
Note: Brick Underground is in no way affiliated with New York City public housing. If you are interested in applying to this or other affordable housing developments, please go to the NYC Housing Connect website for information and instructions.
