Here's a chance to rent an East Harlem apartment for as low as $822 a month
124 discounted apartments are available in a new building in East Harlem through the city housing lottery.
The apartments are in an all-"affordable" development called Acacia Gardens at 401 East 120th St. The just-opened units are studios and one, two, and three bedrooms. They are set aside for households making $30,069-$66,420 a year, with rents starting at $822 a month for a studio.
Full income eligibility and rent details are here:
The building is described as having a kids play area, laundry, a deck, security cameras, and a gym. As is typical of the housing lottery, city employees, neighborhood residents, and people with disabilities get preference. The building is at the corner of First Avenue, near the Wagner Houses, and seven blocks from the 116th Street 6 station, at Lexington Avenue. The 4 and 5 are a few blocks further, at 125th Street, and a block beyond that is the 125th Street Metro-North station.
If you're interested and think you might qualify for one of these apartments, you can create a profile and apply online via NYC Housing Connect. Don't apply more than once, or you could be disqualified.
Note: Brick Underground is in no way affiliated with New York City’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development or the Housing Development Corporation. If you are interested in applying to this or other affordable housing developments, please go to the NYC Housing Connect website for information and instructions.
