Apply for a chance to rent a housing lottery apartment in Bushwick
Applications open on Thursday, February 1st for three apartments in a new building in Bushwick, one block from the J, M, and Z trains, available through the city housing lottery.
The apartments at 22 Melrose St. are two and three bedrooms, with air conditioning, high ceilings, and kitchens with marble counters and dishwashers. The building has laundry.
The apartments are set aside for households making $93,463-$143,910, and the apartments start at $2,726. That's over market rate for the neighborhood, owing to a quirk in the city and state affordable housing programs aimed at creating housing for upper-middle-class people, but the apartments will be rent-stabilized for decades, meaning the rents could stay lower as prices rise around them.
Applications are due by February 23rd. Full eligibility details are here:
Nearby restaurants include local favorites Tony's Pizzeria and Taqueria Sofia. The Myrtle-Broadway subway station is a block away.
If you're interested and think you might qualify for one of these buildings, you can create a profile and apply online via NYC Housing Connect. Don't apply more than once, or you could be disqualified.
Note: Brick Underground is in no way affiliated with New York City’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development or the Housing Development Corporation. If you are interested in applying to this or other affordable housing developments, please go to the NYC Housing Connect website for information and instructions.
